All posts for the month August, 2011

Whoa, that’s a mouthful.

So here’s the thing, I’ve been internet-shy all year. For some strange reason I’m wary of the faceless mob that lives on the other side of the connection. Part of the problem is that I just don’t know where to start…

Well I’ve found my starting point. As long as I’m not too late signing up. (At least this time it’s not due to procrastination. I just found out about this a couple of hours a go via ZOVA’s Molly.)

It sounds like a great way to not only build your following, and discover new writers, but even make some friends.

If it sounds interesting at all you should check out Rachel Harrie’s Blog Post on the Campaign and check out some of the other peeps taking part.

I’m not going to lie. Motivation is not coming easy in August. Dog days I guess.

I did manage to make a postcard that will be going out to Middle School Libraries. I intended to send it out to arrive on Labor Day, but that’s just not going to happen. It’s a bit harder to get stuff done when you don’t have a teacher or a boss as a motivator. I’m quite happy with the way it turned out and hopefully it’s eye-catching enough to intrigue some librarians. I’m considering addressing them to “The Head Book Wrangler” just to be different. I’m sure they all get tons of junk mail and anything to attract attention to East to Adonia is good.

Here’s the postcard:

I am absolutely useless this week. I can’t even manage to get a picture of my new cat.

In other news, my computer has decided that crashing and overheating while doing the most menial of tasks is fun to do multiple times a day. Looks like I’ll be getting a new one within the month. I’m just not sure which to get. I’m tempted to get a System76, which runs Linux. I’m told that you can get OSX to work on a couple of them since they use similar components. I’d get a mac, but they’re a little too Big Brother right now for my tastes. I like the idea of using Ubuntu, but I want my Photoshop…

Oh, what First World Problems I have.

This is how I felt when I started this blog. And whenever I’m doing something super fun, like Pennsic.

Of course, the novelty and excitement wears off and I’m stuck in this mode instead:

The same thing can be said about cleaning, working out, practicing instruments, writing, arting, and life in general. Yes it’s true, I have a short attention span…

Hey! I got a cat yesterday! Her name is Bella, and she’s a pretty little kitty. I got her from S.T.A.F.F. Animal Shelter in Laurie, MO. She’s about 6 years old and she’s super sweet. So far she’s acclimating to our house really well. She’s just checking everything out. She meows quite a bit, but I’m guessing that will pass. And she kept me up all night, but I don’t really blame her for that. She’s in a huge new place and there was a thunderstorm. I tried to get a pic of her using the camera on my computer, but no go. So that will have to wait.

The little cartoon of the dudette is from teh awesome blog Hyperbole and a Half if you don’t read you should. It Will make you laugh, and her posting habits make me feel better. 🙂

I promise I’ll post about Pennsic in the next couple of days. I should have done it a week ago, but like I said…

Ooh, Shiney!

Sooo. I’m not coming through on my blogging like I should. What’s new? Three posts one week, one the next. At least I’m consistently inconsistant.

Do I have an excuse? Naw I don’t believe in those. It just slipped my mind. I’ve had other things to distract me. Like finishing the second book of Mercator. (It’s not done by the way. Close but not quite.) It’s really getting to the good part now. Too bad I won’t get to finish it for a couple of weeks. You see, I have this thing in Pennsylvania that I’m going to be at with 10,000+ of my nerd brethren.

I’m going to Pennsic, baby.

Now, most of you mundanes probably don’t have a clue what that means. Well listen up because I’m about to blow your little minds with sheer awesome.

So, Pennsic is the biggest SCA war in the world.

“And I should care, why?” you ask.

Imma just gon’ put this here:

This is what I’m doing next week. How about you?

To get ready I had to polish my ridiculously rusty helmet. (Which I riveted myself…)

And embroider the hems of my new dress. (Only in the SCA do I infrequently wear a dress. Because they’re super comfy.)

This is going to rock.
